Sea Surfaces

If you wander around the waterfront boat-yards you will find in them the bodies of broken dreams. For someone who shares these dreams , this can be immensely sad.

Boats are magical things – They spirit us away from our natural element across a medium that is so changeable and varied , it defies our imagination.

It can be a dangerous place to be. We cannot exist for long in the water without the support of a boat. However it can happen that the sea might swallow whole , your little boat – flail it’s hull back on shore and grind it to sand.

Over it’s lifetime , a boat will be scarred and repaired. Altered and refitted. Repainted and ground back , patched , filled , drilled , scraped and polished. It needs all this to deal with the injuries inflicted during even a quiet life on the sea.

Some boats , especially the old timber vessels of early last century , show the evidence of all this labour and struggle. Their skin will bear the scars of the sea and the love of the human hand.
